Pharmacy

General Information

The study of pharmacy comprises theoretical, laboratory and practical training as a pharmacist. The main focus is on the development, manufacture, testing and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.

Admission

Admission takes place via the Foundation for Admission to Universities.

Study

Pharmacy is a state examination and diploma program. The basic study course, which lasts 4 semesters, teaches the conceptual, content, systematic and methodological basics of pharmacy. In particular, this includes general, inorganic and organic chemistry, basics of pharmaceutical biology and human biology, basics of physics, physical chemistry, pharmacopoeia theory and pharmaceutical analytics.
In the equally long main study period, the knowledge is deepened, in particular in pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical biotechnology, pharmacology, toxicology and clinical pharmacy.
After the main course of study, it is possible to write a diploma thesis in order to obtain the degree of Diplom-Pharmazeuten.
This is followed by 12 months of practical training, followed by a degree as a pharmacist.

Career Prospects

Pharmacists usually work as pharmacists, but they also develop drugs in the pharmaceutical industry or work in the quality control of drugs.
